Shanghai Mayor Ying Yong met Frank Wilczek, director of Shanghai Jiao Tong University’s Tsung-Dao Le

Shanghai Mayor Ying Yong met Frank Wilczek, director of Shanghai Jiao Tong University’s Tsung-Dao Lee Institute, and his delegation on Wednesday.

Ying congratulated Wilczek’s inauguration as director of the Tsung-Dao Lee Institute and the construction start of the institute’s laboratory building.

He said Shanghai is accelerating the process of building itself into a globally influential technology and innovation center, and it will keep increasing investment in scientific researches and set up key scientific research institutes in Zhangjiang Science City such as the Tsung-Dao Lee Institute.

Openness is Shanghai’s biggest strength and talents are the city’s greatest needs. The city welcomes top scientists and research personnel from the world to carry out scientific researches and cooperation to benefit the people.

The city will heed the scientists’ suggestions and create top-notch environment for them, and it hopes the Tsung-Dao Lee Institute will produce great results in the scientific research field under the leadership of Director Frank Wilczek, Ying added.

Wilczek said Shanghai is an open city full of vitality and resources. As it is accelerating the process of building itself into a technology and innovation center, it also creates a large number of opportunities for the scientists.

The Tsung-Dao Lee Institute will take hold in the world’s cutting-edge technologies and strive to tap into its technological potentials to support Shanghai, Wilczek added.

Jiang Sixian, Party secretary of Shanghai Jiao Tong University; Lin Zhongqin, president of Shanghai Jiao Tong University; Li Zhongqing, curator of Tsung-Dao Lee Library, also attended the meeting.
