What SciHub is
SciHub is a place where visionary ideas can be developed into real-world results. It brings individuals and teams from many disciplines together in an integrated research, teaching, outreach, and product-development laboratory, gathering faculty, staff, and students alongside local teachers, scientists, engineers, medical professionals, product developers, designers, museum conservators, and artists. Its centerpiece is an innovation space on the ASU Tempe campus, modeled in the style of a generator lab, where locally inspired ideas can move through a systematic process toward becoming finished products.
Research, projects, and products
SciHub spans research collaborations, product development, and outreach. Its work has ranged from fundamental physics to applied technology, including projects such as switchable dielectrics for microwave systems and the Hylighter, the programmable-light device that featured in the Invisible Palettes exhibition. The lab also develops products that grow out of its cross-disciplinary collaborations.
Outreach
SciHub runs education and outreach programs that connect science with the wider community, including Clubes de Ciencia Arizona, which pairs researchers with students through hands-on science clubs, and the SciAPP Workshop, which brings together scientists and artists around shared questions.
Recognition
SciHub's founders and collaborators have been widely recognized. Frank Wilczek and his colleagues were awarded a prize from the Gravity Research Foundation for work on the noise of gravitons, and SciHub researchers were named National Academy of Inventors fellows in 2018.
