The Wilczek Quantum Center will host a symposium, "Historical and Future Perspectives of Physics and Physicists," on August 17 and 18, 2026. The event will be livestreamed and preserved online.

About the symposium

The history of physics has repeatedly shown that a deep appreciation of the past and a forward-looking vision are often important at critical moments of major breakthroughs. Today, physics faces profound challenges, among which artificial intelligence brings both transformative opportunities and new conceptual questions. At this time, coincident with the centenary of quantum mechanics, we convene this symposium to reflect on the magnificent arc of physics, by grounding our discussions in specific physical problems, tracing the path from foundations to modern frontiers, and envisioning its future. We also honor the memory of Anthony Leggett, Chen-Ning Yang, Tsung-Dao Lee, and other distinguished physicists who have recently passed away, drawing inspiration from their intellectual legacy.
